Why use Meditech® Consultants?
5 Reasons Why You should Use a Consultant
to aid in the Installation of the MEDITECH® System
The MEDITECH system is one of the most flexible HIS systems. However, it is up to the user to define how they want to use it. Many of the MEDITECH installation personnel have never worked in a hospital. They know how to set up their system, but it is up to the hospital to tell them how they want to use it.
Specifically, the MEDITECH system is driven based on parameters which describe the hospital and many, many dictionaries which drive the system in a particular way. MEDITECH install people do not tell a hospital what its alternatives are when the parameters and dictionaries are to be set up. One of the most common complaints is that MEDITECH does not tell you the “WHYS”, they just tell you the “HOWS”. Many hospitals find that they end up changing the dictionaries after they learn the “WHYS” because that’s not the way they operate. Of course, this results in a loss of time and money, and frustration by the users.
Second, MEDITECH is an integrated system and for the most part a change in one module will affect other modules. The MEDITECH specialist is knowledgeable of their areas such as the Pharmacy module only. They do not know how their areas integrate with other modules being implemented. This often results in errors between departments and loss of time and money by hospital staff to find and correct these errors.
Third, the MEDITECH system can be customized to fit a hospital’s operating processes. Using knowledgeable consultants such as Inteck, results in obtaining the experience in configuring the system for many different environments. Thus, they can advise the hospital on its alternatives to obtain maximum benefit.
Fourth, the MEDITECH specialist assigned to a hospital’s implementation has simultaneous responsibilities to other projects/implementations across the country. For that reason, the MEDITECH specialist often confuses your hospital with the others and provides conflicting information rather than help you resolve your problems or questions.
Finally, MEDITECH provides a complex report writer. This report writer is used to develop customize reports which their system does not provide. However, because it is complex, it is difficult to use. Facilities do not have the time to send their personnel to class, especially during installation. Consultants can write these custom reports for you and review the processes so you can support their maintenance after the system has been activated.
